NYCMA MISSION:
The New York Community Media Alliance (NYCMA) works to promote and support independent publications committed to social justice and a free press.
In pursuit of this goal, the NYCMA provides technical assistance to its member publications and is a vigorous public advocate of the independent press.

Education Reporting Fellowship 2008-2009: Call for application

NYCMA will award $108,000 fellowship grants to 18 selected journalists from ethnic and community newspapers in NYC this summer to participate in a 10-month program to promote better reporting on education issues.

12 Ethnic Journalists Selected for John Jay Reporting Fellowship

NYCMA and the Center on Media, Crime and Justice at John Jay College are proud to announce the selection of twelve journalists from leading ethnic and community newspapers in the New York region for the Immigration and Crime Reporting Fellowships.

Nearly 50 editors and reporters from about 30 different news organizations attended the two-day workshop aimed to enhance investigative reporting skills. Conducted by some of the New York Times's best investigative journalists, the event was an unprecedented success.

This workshop is sponsored by NYT Foundation and organized by IRE in collaboration with NYCMA and New America Media.

2008 Ippies Awards Winners Announced!

NYCMA announced 28 winners of the Ippies Awards on Dec. 5. City Limits Weekly, the Indypendent, Little India, El Diario/La Prensa and the Forward are among the biggest winners this year.

2008 Elections Initiative

NYCMA launched this unprecedented initiative by sending 10 ethnic journalists to New Hamsphire for the primary in January. Over 30 articles were published after the three-day primary. Click here to read the special issue of Voices That Must Be Heard.

NYCMA is offering a series of workshops on issues critical to communities of color. The next workshop is scheduled in early June. Details to be announced.
